You’ll help build and maintain backend services that power patient and provider experiences—reliable APIs, data workflows, and integrations that support care delivery at scale.

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Backend Software Engineer with strong PHP / Laravel experience to build and improve core platform services. You’ll collaborate closely with product, frontend, and mobile engineers to ship features end-to-end, raise code quality, and improve performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs in Laravel/PHP.
Design data models, write migrations, and optimize queries for MySQL/PostgreSQL.
Improve performance and reliability (monitoring, debugging, incident support, root-cause fixes).
Write and maintain automated tests (unit/feature/integration) and contribute to code reviews.
Support and improve CI/CD pipelines and environments (Docker, GitHub Actions).
Collaborate across teams to ensure smooth integration between services and clients.
Document APIs and key system workflows clearly for the team.

Requirements

3+ years building production systems with PHP and Laravel (or equivalent experience).
Strong understanding of relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL) and query optimization.
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs (authentication, pagination, versioning).
Comfort with Git and modern development workflows (PRs, reviews, CI/CD).
Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit and/or Pest).
Clear communicator who can collaborate in a remote team.

Nice to have

Redis, queues, background jobs, and event-driven patterns.
Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure).
Familiarity with data interoperability standards such as HL7 2.x and FHIR for health information exchange, and integration engines like Mirth Connect.
