Students and educators alike voiced the urgent need to integrate formal degrees with practical skills, underlining a balanced approach to education.

Aditi Singh, a management student, advocated for a 'skills before degree' approach, suggesting that practical skills are crucial in today's job market. Meanwhile, biotechnology student Anishka Chandra emphasized that while skills are essential, degrees should not be disregarded. She argued that degrees still serve as a primary eligibility criterion for many job roles.

The conversation further highlighted the sector-specific nature of this debate. Abd Ur Rehman Mujahid, a graduate student of medicine, pointed out that certain fields, like medicine, inherently require formal degrees. In contrast, the tech industry often values skills over traditional qualifications. This dichotomy reflects the broader challenge of aligning education with industry needs.

Another critical point raised was the necessity for educational institutions to evolve. Dr. Vallabhaneni, a post-graduate student of pathology, advocated for the seamless integration of practical skills into academic curricula, drawing examples from countries like Germany and Switzerland. The discussion also touched on the inadequacies of the current system in preparing students for the job market, with suggestions to incorporate internships and project-based learning more extensively.

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education was also examined.
