India Embraces AI to Revolutionize Education: A Roundtable with Edtech Innovators
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spearheaded a crucial AI roundtable with edtech startups to align technology with India's National Education Policy 2020. The discussion focused on integrating AI to enhance learning outcomes and provide equitable access to education.
In a groundbreaking move aimed at transforming India's educational landscape, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently chaired an Artificial Intelligence (AI) roundtable at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi. The meeting brought together founders of ten emerging Indian edtech startups, policymakers, and academic leaders to explore the potential of AI in revolutionizing education across the nation.
The roundtable was organized in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which envisions leveraging technological advancements to enhance learning outcomes and ensure equitable access to education. Minister Pradhan emphasized that technology, particularly AI, is a powerful tool capable of bridging the gap between hope and opportunity for students across India.
During the discussions, Pradhan highlighted the need for AI-enabled, personalized, and adaptive learning models that focus on student-centric approaches. The goal is to make education more affordable and accessible, particularly for students in underserved areas, by harnessing the potential of AI-driven solutions. The minister noted that previous phases of educational technology primarily expanded access to learning content, but the next phase must prioritize improving educational outcomes.
The meeting featured presentations from a new generation of Indian edtech startups, each developing AI-first solutions across various educational domains, including K-12 learning, test preparation, upskilling, language learning, and skill education. Startups like Arivihan, Fermi AI, Khare AI classes, and others showcased their innovative approaches to integrating AI into their offerings.
The insights and discussions from the roundtable are set to inform future policy deliberations at the upcoming India AI Impact Summit. This event will focus on responsible AI adoption, safeguarding practices, and pathways for scaling AI's impact across sectors, with education being a key area of focus.
Following the roundtable, a two-day Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave is scheduled for February 12-13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The conclave aims to bring together senior policymakers, researchers, academic institutions, and industry leaders to deliberate on AI's strategic role in transforming India's education ecosystem. The discussions will center on innovation, scalable adoption, and building national capacity in AI technology.
These initiatives precede the larger India AI Summit, slated for February 16-20, which is expected to draw participation from global tech leaders such as NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The summit aims to further explore AI's transformative potential in various sectors, including education.
