In a significant shift towards modernizing education, a recent survey conducted by the Education University of Hong Kong indicates that 60% of schools in Hong Kong have begun implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in their teaching and administrative processes. This highlights a growing trend in leveraging technology to enhance educational outcomes and operational efficiency.

The study, which surveyed nearly 1,892 individuals from 65 primary schools, 82 secondary schools, and 16 special schools, reveals a keen interest among educational institutions to adopt AI. Participants reported employing AI predominantly in teaching applications, with a smaller proportion focusing on administrative uses. This transition is seen as a critical step in preparing students for a technology-driven future.

However, the survey also sheds light on the hurdles faced by the remaining 40% of schools, which have yet to fully integrate AI into their systems. These institutions cite a lack of AI expertise, insufficient manpower, and budgetary constraints as primary barriers. To address these challenges, researchers urge educators to enhance their understanding of AI technologies, thereby enabling them to guide students more effectively in navigating an increasingly digital world.
